Cameron Maybin makes it big

Cameron Maybin, the 20-year-old baseball phenom from Ashvegas, got called up to the majors yesterday. He didn’t do much on Friday, but today, the former Roberson High School star homered off none other than Roger Clemens.

Yeah. He hit a home run. Off the Rocket. To straight-away center. Maybin also hit a single off Clemens.

Maybin got his debut in Yankee Stadium, playing left field. Sports commentators on Saturday noted that the young prospect had to face Andy Pettitte on Friday, then faced Clemens and Mariano Rivera on Saturday.

Wow. What a dream come true for the kid. And people just can’t stop saying great things about him. MLB.com just posted a story about him. Big league players and coaches and managers talk about his “quiet confidence.” They talk about how “he doesn’t let this stuff get to his head.” About working like a dog, possessing an inner toughness and not being afraid of failure.

Ashvegas should be proud to be represented so well. Way to go, Cam!
