Cambria Hotel in downtown Asheville makes final push to opening day

Construction crews are working feverishly to get the Cambria Hotel and Suites at the corner of Battery Park and Page avenues in downtown Asheville open before the fall tourism season passes by.

The Cambria is the next big downtown Asheville hotel to open in a hotel building boom that’s rolling on across the city. The AC Hotel at the corner of Broadway and College just opened, and just a stone’s throw away, construction crews are working away on The Arras, the former BB&T office building that’s being transformed into condos, a boutique hotel, retail and restaurant space. The Asheville Foundry Inn is also coming together along Eagle and Market streets. Last year, the Hyatt Place and Hilton Garden Inn opened in downtown.

All told, these properties will add about 800 rooms to the downtown Asheville hotel room rental market. Here’s where things stand with the great Asheville hotel building boom as of summer 2017.

Now back to the Cambria Hotel. The new 136-room hotel is the work of the Asheville-based FIRC group, which also owns the Haywood Park Hotel in downtown Asheville and the new Country Inn & Suites which opened a year or so ago at Westgate Shopping Center. Company founder Tony Fraga is a native of Havana, Cuba.

Hemingway’s Cuba is one of two new restaurants planned for the new Cambria Hotel (the other is a seafood restaurant called Page Avenue Seafood), and it’s already advertising on Facebook. Hemingway’s Cuba will be on the hotel’s fourth and will be designed to have the flair of a Cuban bar. Think daiquiris, music, mountain views and a big patio. Word on the street is that the restaurant is shooting for a mid-October opening.

From current advertising for Hemingway’s Cuba:

Upon arrival on the fourth floor Terrace at Cambria Hotel you may think you’ve entered Havana until your eyes reach the backdrop of the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains. Hemingway’s Cuba offers their patrons the perfect marriage of Cuban cuisine with Asheville flair. We can’t wait to provide you with a dining experience as rich and as unique as a Hemingway’s story.

Stay tuned for specific opening dates.
