Buncombe commissioner candidate pledges to share Powerball winnings

Chad Nesbitt, who is running for chairman of the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners this year, is pledging to share his Powerball winnings if he hits the big lottery on Wednesday.

Nesbitt posted a photo on his page on Facebook of his lottery ticket and a signed statement that he would “equally share 100 percent of the earnings I win from the North Carolina Powerball on Wednesday January 13th 2016 with all registered voters living in Buncombe County that like this post, share this post, and Comments on my Facebook what they fear the most if Asheville’s liberal leadership takes over Buncombe County.

Nesbitt, a Republican, added this on his page:

This is no joke! I am serious. This is a legal document with my signature. Good luck to us all! I HOPE WE WIN! “Chad Nesbitt will stop the liberal take over of Buncombe County!”

Nesbitt, a master at self-promotion, is placing a pretty safe bet. The odds of winning the estimated $1.5 billion jackpot are about 1 in 292 million, meaning it’s highly unlikely that he will win the big one.

That’s the kind of sober, rational, issue-based thinking that we’ve come to expect from Chad.

Luckily, his odds of getting elected are about the same as winning the lottery.
