Here’s the tweet from WLOS reporter Russ Bowen:

Sources close to #dirtydancing remake say shoot likely next spring in Lake Lure.

Ashvegas has noted that the filmmakers working on Dirty Dancing movie were scouting WNC locations. We’ll see how this develops. Lionsgate is doing the Dirty Dancing remake, and it’s worth nothing that Lionsgate was the company that made this year’s big hit, The Hunger Games, which was filmed partly in the mountains and was a big boost to the local economy. The making of Hunger Games in the mountains also put North Carolina back on the map for future productions.

When actor and Dancing star Patrick Swayze died in 2009, a ton of folks recalled how the making of the movie touched their lives. The movie and its music became a cultural touchstone. Since his death, a Dirty Dancing Festival has sprung up, with fans flocking from all over to get close to the original’s magic. Talk of the remake will likely energize the third edition of the event, which is scheduled for Aug. 17-18 this year.

The movie was originally scheduled to be released in July 2013. That’s been pushed back, according to reports out of Hollywood.
