Pisha didn’t make the cut
Former Asheville Civic Center Director David Pisha was in the running for the job as director of the civic center in Bismark, N.D., but he didn’t make the cut:

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) Three finalists have been named for the job of Bismarck Civic Center manager.

They are Stephen Hyman of Streamwood, Illinois, Charlie Jeske of Grand Forks and Ron Staiger (STY’-gur) of Bismarck.

Hyman is the owner and co-founder of Arenas, a consulting service for arena design, management and public relations.

Jeske is the former executive director of the Alerus Center in Grand Forks. Earlier, he was the promotional manager for the city of Jamestown.

Staiger is the current Bismarck Civic Center operations manager.

Bismarck got 20 applications for the job of Civic Center manager. Officials hope to hire someone by next year. Associated Press

Bill Press parties in town
Bill Press of the liberal radio talk show The Bill Press Show, which can be heard on AM 880 The Revolution here in Ashvegas, visited Asheville this week and did his show from here. This isn’t the first time he’s visited. But one interesting note was about a local couple who performed a comedy act at a reception for him. Janna and Stu Zonder are musicians who perform political satire ala the Capital Steps.

The couple just moved to Asheville from Atlanta. Keep your eye on more performances from them.

Did you miss NPR’s Wait, wait. Don’t tell me?
If you missed the show (which was recorded live at the DWT back in November) you can catch up in a couple of places. Peter Sagal blogged about it here and loved Malaprop’s and Table. And there are photos of the visit here. To listen to the show, go here.

Don’t forget that former U.S. Rep. Charles Taylor’s annual Holiday Dinner is at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Grove Park Inn. Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has said he’ll attend, and a host of other Republicans running for office next year will be there.
