Biscuitgate: All-caps biscuit bulletin posted to West Asheville Facebook page unleashes comment flood

Share

What happens when a little snow mixes with a holiday hangover to give people waaaaay too much time on the Internets? Biscuitgate, that’s what.

The following all-caps bulletin posted yesterday at West Asheville Exchange started it all:

ATTENTION HEALTH CONSCIOUS FOLKS: BISCUIT HEAD — — USES A SOYBEAN OIL MARGARINE-BUTTER BLEND IN THEIR BISCUITS AND THEY ARE TELLING PEOPLE THEY — — USE BUTTER. PLEASE PASS ON THE WORD. THANK YOU!!!!

The comments that followed were immediately sarcastic and silly:

Alright we hear you!

What does this even mean? And why are you hollering it?

the sky is falling henny penny!

Does this mean biscuits are now healthy? Cause that would be awesome.

And it rolled on from there. Folks weighed in with everything from discourses on biscuit quality around the U.S. to witty retorts and cutting barbs. It’s a pretty classic thread. Thanks to White Lighnin’ for the heads-up.

I had no beef with margarine…until the container started to talk back!

I can’t believe it’s not butter.

Love me some Biscuithead, but I won’t let them call me by my real name.

Sooooo tacky how the CT “Answer Woman” wrote about this, even using the phrase “Biscuitgate” as though it just fell out of thin air. “Exclusive,” my arse.

Love me some Biscuit head biscuits, though…lard, butter or crud. Mmmm, mmmm, good.

I don’t care if they use margarine. I love eatin that stuff. It tastes good.

Hey, lay off my schtick!

Perhaps they “stirred up” this “controversy” themselves…

Don’t know what they use, don’t care, but I will say this: I have eaten there 4 times immediately after the grand opening, and while the first time was good, each time after the biscuits got harder, more overcooked and less tasty, so I quit going.

Nothing personal, BH is just not worth what they charge anymore. Breakfast in general, and biscuits in particular, are far superior and for the same or less cost at Moose Cafe just down Brevard road. No crowds or long lines either.

Try the One Stop, soon to be Mojo Kitchen & Lounge for their biscuits!
