Mackensy Lunsford blogs it at her Eat Scene blog:

The doors at the Mexican restaurant at 72 Weaverville Highway, Baja Cafe, are locked. A sign on the door reads, “Thank you for your support. We have closed the Baja Cafe. We are now officially retired. Celest & Walter.”

I went there once shortly after they opened and found it overpriced. Also, the decor was at the very least borderline racist. An arrow going out the door that says “Immigration rain escape route?” A bottle of tequila that says “Pepe’s pain killers?”

Hopefully something more appropriate will move in and do very well.

Bummer! I just ate there for the first time a couple weeks ago, after passing it up for months. The food was great, as was the service. The $3 ritas weren’t too shabby either. I was planning to hit it up a bunch going forward 🙁
