It’s a tradition, according to the Hendersonville newspaper:
A new group of goats has been born at the historic Carl Sandburg home and the kids are jumping for joy.
When the poet’s home opened as a historic site, goats were already a staple.
“In 1974 the park had a dairy up and running,” said Park Ranger Janene Donovan. “While we no longer have a dairy, we still raise the goats to keep up the lineage. These goats are direct descendents of the original herd. We keep the goats to show people what it was like when the Sandburg family lived here.”
Goats are generally born between April and June.
