Comedian Stewart Huff at Elaine’s Piano Bar, Fri., Sept 14, 2012 at 8 p.m.
“Stewart is one of the best comics working today. [He] may be one of the best comedy writers America has seen since Woody Allen. He is able to pull comedy from subjects that shouldn’t be able to illicit anymore jokes. In his current act, he has a 15 minute joke about a kid taking a penguin from the zoo. Can any of the readers out there make even one joke about that?” — Darrin Hensley ,the Examiner
Jack of the Wood: Twilight Broadcasters and Brushfire Stankgrass
Early Show w/ TWILITE BROADCASTERS
5pm FREE (Donations Encouraged)
The Twilite Broadcasters are the missing link between vintage country, old time & early bluegrass. Based in Asheville, North Carolina, the band creates traditional American music directly inspired by the likes of the Louvin Brothers and Bill Monroe. Close brother harmonies and deft switching between mandolin, fiddle, and guitar draw the listener backwards in time. Originally a duo, Adam Tanner (fiddle, mandolin, vocals) and Mark Jackson (guitar and vocals) have added the bass stylings of Chuck Shreve to the mix, livening up an already fiery live show.

BRUSHFIRE STANKGRASS
9pm $5
Mixing analog effects with bluegrass backbeats, the music of Brushfire Stankgrass is instantly unique. The band’s debut album, “One for the Salamanders,” reached #2 on the Relix and jambands.com airplay charts in 2011, remaining in the top 5 for two months. The album also was voted as one of the top 100 albums of 2010 by WNCW listeners and was a top ten regional release of the year. “One for the Salamanders” is currently available from all major online music stores. A track from their 2011 Studio B performance was recently picked for WNCW’s famed “Crowd Around the Mic” compilation series for 2011/2012. This Stankgrass sound has been called “quintessential modern mountain music,” and “raging bluegrass…seamlessly meshed into some good dancing music.” The band has indeed become a regional and local favorite on the Asheville, North Carolina music scene. The past year included several notable shows, including: Headlining downtown Asheville’s 4th of July Celebration, Bele Chere, Durham World Beer Festival, Shakori Hills, Asheville Winter Warmer Festival, French Broad River Festival, The Getdown Festival, and stops at several other notable venues throughout the southeast. Brushfire looks forward to an exciting year ahead, with more festival stops and their second album underway.

MILF: The Musical Opening Night Gala
A Family-Friendly Tale of Inappropriate Love
Book & Lyrics by Luica Del Vecchio, Music by Holiday Childress
Directed by Steven Samuels
Thursdays-Saturdays Sept 13th-Oct 13th @ 7:30pm
$16
Known for her razor-sharp wit and acute sense of middle-class American suburbia, Lucia Del Vecchio (familiar to local audiences as the author of the hits Shangri-La and The Evolution of Woman) has made an exciting foray into new theatrical territory with The Magnetic Theatre’s first musical.
Despite the implications of its title, MILF is a family-friendly musical, that is a gentle send-up of suburbia’s cookie-cutter houses and the folks who live in them. Brilliantly written and handsomely staged, MILF: The Musical promises to be the must see event of WNC’s fall theatre season.
Join us for this special Opening Night Gala, with dessert and champagne following the performance!
