-Wild Wing Cafe to open Friday: The new Wild Wings on Long Shoals Road, in the former Boathouse restaurant space, will open on Friday, March 14, according to a sign on the door.
–Chick-fil-A on Merrimon: Chick-fil-A says it’s new Merrimon Avenue restaurant will celebrate its grand opening on April 3 if all goes according to plan.
-Beer City USA poll is dead: Poll creator Charlie Papazian says the poll has served its purpose. Asheville won, or tied for first place, in four out of the five years the online poll was held.
The point I thought was missing was a measure of community support for craft brewers and the spirit of community they were helping to build. This in my opinion was essential and fundamental to the success of small and independent brewers in America, but no one was really giving craft brewery enthusiasts and beer drinkers any credit for the unparalleled growth and success of America’s craft brewers. Their role in the equation for success and revolution was sorely missing from the “statistics” that were defining the beer phenomenon sweeping this country.
It was quite obvious from the 156,000 votes cast from 2009 to 2013 that beer mattered. But a mobilization of many beer communities happened in ways never before observed. It wasn’t just about the beer but about the community spirit behind the craft brewing movement.
-Hendo town name will be on Sierra Nevada label: The Hendersonville Lightning has the news:
Communications Manager Ryan Arnold said that the Chico-based brewery will add the name Mills River to the label, which identifies the brewing location as Chico, Calif., across the bottom. The top corners are flanked by the trademark phrases “Purest Ingredients” and “Finest Quality.”
“We’ll have a label that does claim both locations but that will be universal,” Arnold said last week. In other words, beer brewed here will have the same label as beer brewed in California.

Booo hooo, Whine Whine Whine. Thats what so many of you “entitled” people do. Thank your “progressive” city council for signing off on every development we have.
Staples, greenlife, trader joes, all of those make that part of town a traffic nightmare.
Its about the money, remember that next time you vote for those fools in office.
Never fails, the only day I ever truly crave a Chik-fil-a is on Sunday, damn them and their constitutional right to freedom of religion.
I thought it was kind of stupid of Chick-Fil-A not to include a playground. You’re plunking it down right in the middle of a bunch of houses, a lot of which contain families with small children. I think the only reason I would go there regularly is if I could get some waffle fries and let the kids run around when it’s snowing. Oh, well.
I won’t comment on the quality of food. I do think it’s amazing that it’s right across the street from Plant. Now you can smell frying chicken while you eat your veggie substitute!
My personal feelings toward CFA’s politics are mine to bear. Suffice to say, I won’t go there.
But, to be fair, I will also avoid the new Moe’s (further north on Merrimon), McDonalds, Wendy’s and a host of other fast food joints and chains that only serve to make our city exactly like every other city in this country. I’m not holier-than-though about the food I eat (I eat my share of greasy goodness). But if I’m going to eat out and perhaps less healthily than I ought to, I’m damn sure going to enjoy it.
That’s why I prefer to spend my money at the local eateries where the people and the food may be a little quirky – and that suits me fine.
Chick-fil-A does not hate gay people. Its not hate to believe in traditional marriage.
I do not eat at Chick-fil-A though because their food is unhealthy. I had complained to them before that it was a bad Christian testimony. They recently announced they are removing Dyes, Corn Syrup and TBHQ in 2014. Also according to CCN, they will “use chicken raised without antibiotics in all of its restaurants within five years.” Maybe I will eat there after they do that.

It’s not hate to believe in traditional marriage.
Thank you! I feel the same way and I hate no one.
What “tradition” are you invoking here? The traditions of arranged marriage, of child brides, of old widowed men marrying the spare women in a community?
“Traditional marriage” is as “traditional” as factory-farmed chicken pumped full of antibiotics.
A lot of people in Asheville are actually excited about Chik-fil-A opening.
Besides You I can’t think of Any
Here’s at least one more.
I may not agree with every decision Chick-fil-A’s corporate overlords make or every political/religious stance they take, but that’s true with pretty much every other retail establishment where I shop — from Walmart to Earth Fare to my neighbborhood’s locally owned pharmacy. And the food, by fast food standards, is pretty good and served (at every CFA I’ve ever patronized) by the most consistently friendly and helpful staff of any quick serve restaurant.
They do have friendly service and clean stores. I bet this location will do very well.
Every dollar you spend is a vote for what you want to see in the world.
This is what you support when you buy a chicken sandwich from Chick Fil A:
Chicken (whole breast filet, seasoning [salt, monosodium glutamate, sugar, spices, paprika], seasoned coater [enriched bleached wheat flour {with malted barley flour, niacin, iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid}, sugar, salt, monosodium glutamate, nonfat milk, leavening {baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate}, spice, soybean oil, color {paprika}], milk wash [water, nonfat milk, egg], peanut oil [fully refined peanut oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness and dimethylpolysiloxane as an anti-foaming agent]), bun (enriched flour [wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate {Vitamin B1}, riboflavin {Vitamin B2}, folic acid], water, high fructose corn syrup, yeast, contains 2% or less of each of the following: liquid yeast, soybean oil, nonfat milk, salt, wheat gluten, soy flour, dough conditioners [may contain one or more of the following: mono- and diglycerides, calcium and sodium stearoyl lactylates, calcium peroxide], soy flour, amylase, yeast nutrients [monocalcium phosphate, calcium sulfate, ammonium sulfate], calcium propionate added to retard spoilage, soy lecithin, cornstarch, butter oil [soybean oil, palm kernel oil, soy lecithin, artificial flavor, TBHQ and citric acid added as preservatives, and artificial color]), pickles (cucumbers, water, vinegar, salt, calcium chloride, alum, potassium sorbate [preservative], natural flavors, polysorbate 80, yellow 5, blue 1).
Its your money, vote for what you want.
Me, I do not like chemicals telling my brain something tastes good when it really does not (monosodium glutamate)
Mmmm, fried Hate sandwich and a side of Homophobe fries!
I can’t wait to get my big basket of hate chicken.
Not me, I want a Bigot Deluxe with a side of Hateful Christian Waffle Fries!
Such inspiring menu items combined with the unique and fine architecture of the establishment is indicative of the depth and thoughtfulness inherent in the cultural values they bring to our community. Bravo, Chick fil a, Bravo.
Worst thing to happen to North Asheville since The Fuddrucker’s.
show some positivity Stu.
agree with Stu
I am curious what was on that lot before Fuddrucker’s came along. Was it something memorable or nice?
My family moved to Asheville in 1986 when I was 4 years old, and that was the year Fudd was built. We went there a lot. They had a kids-eat-free special on Tuesdays or Wednesdays or something.
In college I would get the kids eat free special between my bf and I at the time we spent like 3 dollars. It was great. Im sure there was a big beautiful couple of houses there. I know the house catty corner across the street on Charlotte was a big deal back in the day.
The location of Fuddruckers used to be the site of a very large victorian home… I believe it had been sub-divided into apartments several years prior to it being purchased for the restaurant.
Stu Helm…..worst thing to happen to Ashvegas since that time Jason showed up at 12 Bones with his cardboard cutout Barack Obama.
Don’t agree with CFA’s politics but the people that work there and the tasty freakin’ chicken keep me coming back. To balance the scales of justice though, I gladly scarf down a pint of Ben & Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk the day after a CFA meal. Even Steven…….
Hard to believe that so many people think that their chicken sandwiches don’t taste good. My morals and my taste buds are not connected.
JT, its just a chemical reaction from the MSG, don’t you worry it really does not taste good.
Why you gotta make it personal, Headhunter? How about I just call you a douchebag? Gawd, I knew I wouldn’t be able to voice my opinion on this thread without some fuckhead hater troll making it personal. Congrats on being that jerk. Headhunter: asshole.
I believe you started it with the “Worst thing to happen to North Asheville since The Fuddrucker’s”. That Fuddrucker’s was here way before you moved here.
Jeez Stu…….you can voice your opinion but I can’t voice mine? Are you above reproach and criticism ? For a snarky ass, freeloading, would be food critic, you sure have thin skin.
Stu Helm:Oxygen Thief
I think you are missing the big picture here Stu. You could make some easy money drawing cartoon cows with huge breasts for Chik-fil-A. Or you could draw a cartoon Chik-fil-A worker with even bigger breasts.
