Ashvegas Hot Sheet: New brewery, Zillicoah Beer Co., coming to Woodfin

-There’s a new brewery in the works for Woodfin. It’s called Zillicoah Beer Co., and the build-out is happening now at a spot along Riverside Drive. Stay tuned for details.

-Tickets are on sale now for the summer tour of the old Land of Oz amusement park atop Beech Mountain. Romantic Asheville has the details.

-Arvato has announced it is hiring 200 customer service workers at its call center in Weaverville. Last year, the company announced it was closing its manufacturing center there. Details on the Arvato jobs, which are full-time and include benefits, here.

-Asheville musicians Tyler Ramsey and Bill Reynolds of Band of Horses have announced that they’re departing the band, Paste Magazine reports.

A Meditation on Making and Motherhood will be held at 12:30 p.m. on May 14 and hosted by Asheville artist Martha Skinner.

-The Country Club of Asheville is celebrating its reopening and some major renovations this weekend. The Country Club of Asheville, the oldest private club in North Carolina with its origin dating back to 1894, recently unveiled the newly renovated, Donald Ross-designed  golf course to its membership for the first time. The course was closed for 348 days and redesigned under the guidance of Richard Mandell. The Pinehurst-based architect was in charge of reshaping and reconstructing all 18 greens to the original 1928 Ross design. The course reopened on April 14 with more than 180 members seeing the changes for the first time. In 2016 McConnell Golf, which purchased the property two years earlier, spent $3.7 million on capital projects, of which $3 million was devoted to the golf course renovation. That brought McConnell Golf’s total investment to more than $4.6 million.

-On May 10th, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Va., will hear arguments in Ansley v. Warren, the federal lawsuit challenging Senate Bill 2, according to a press release sent out by the Campaign for Southern Equality. Passed in 2015, Senate Bill 2 is a North Carolina state law that allows magistrates who do not believe in marriage equality to renounce their judicial oath to uphold and evenly apply the United States Constitution.

-“Together We Soar” will be held at 8 p.m. on June 22-24 at Diana Wortham Theatre in Asheville. Zillicoah Beer news is positive for Woodfin’s riverfront, along with the whitewater wave, greenway, and artists studios! The under-appreciated river is finally seeing some signs of life.
