Because there’s so much happening in ye olde Ashvegas:
-No Asheville Civic Center ice: The Asheville Civic Center has no plans to bring ice, and ice skating, to the center arena this year.
-The Hop: What’s going at the former Hop Ice Cream location there in Woolsey Dip along Merrimon Avenue? Looks like the building is all spruced up and ready to be occupied.
-Sound Swap reminder: The Asheville Sound Swap is Sunday.
-Grove Arcade moves: An Ashvegas commenter says he’s heard that the Battery Park Book Exchange and Champagne Bar is considering a move to the space vacated by the former Grove Arcade grocery. The book store and bar recently announced its intention to move from the ground floor of the Battery Park. Can anyone confirm? I’ve also heard that there’s going to be a new soup and salad bar going into the Grove Arcade, to be opened before the end of the year.
-Will season sizzle?: I’m thinking holidays, here. Next week is the big downtown Asheville Holiday parade, and that got me wondering whether Asheville was going to do the Seasonal Sizzle again this year – you know, the series of free weekend fireworks shows downtown. Anybody know?
-New look Tourists: The Asheville Tourists have T-shirts and ball caps out with a new color scheme and revised logo. What’s up? The Asheville Citizen-Times will have an update coming.
-Appalachia Rising, round 2: BlogAsheville reports that Appalachia Rising, one helluva musical duo, is playing a second show at the Bobo Gallery on Wednesday at 9 p.m. Their Saturday show was a jam-packed sell-out.
-51 Biltmore moves ahead: Asheville City Councilman Gordon Smith tweets today that he received an update about a proposed hotel project today. In October 2008, City Council approved a 145-room hotel, about 430 parking spaces and 50 moderately priced homes for what’s now a 1-acre parking lot at 51 Biltmore Ave. The project by the McKibbon Hotel group is dubbed Aloft Asheville. Smith seems to indicate the project is moving forward.
-New track from Stephanie’s Id: Asheville’s own Stephanie’s Id has release a new track online. Check it out.
-Moogfest costume contest update: Everyone who attened Moogfest 2010 knows the costumes people were wearing that weekend were off the chain. Moogfest held a costume contest, and just posted a Facebook update saying they’ve got a list of finalists, with photos to come.
-Up for next week: Asheville Holiday parade; Grove Park Inn gingerbread house competition; Elton John comes to town…
What else?

i heard that, too, about Bruce's Pipe Shop, but someone posted on the blog that the folks at Bruce's had changed their mind and decided NOT to move into the old Hop building. hmmm…
My understanding is that the old Hop location is going to be the new location for Bruce's Pipe Shop, but I can't remember where I heard that from. Great spot to get cigars if you're that type of person…
A pipe shop is moving into the old Hop building – Bruce's Pipe Shop I think…
Old Hop location is being renovated to become a smoke shop. Living in the neighborhood, I applaud the care they took in preserving that great deco building.
The new Tourists logo is AWFUL. Seriously, whoever designed that should be ashamed of themselves. Bring back Ted E. Tourist!
I had heard that Bruce's Pipe Shop was moving into the Hop's old location. Rumor?
The Tourist T-shirt on the far left — is that a bindle he's carrying? Perhaps the next move will be to change the team name to "Asheville Hobos." I'd be all for it. John Hodgman could be the spokesman.
Who thinks the new "Tourists" logo is a good idea?
How is a moon wearing sunglasses in any way representative of a "tourist" ….
I was at the Battery Park Book exchange last night and indeed they are moving to Grove Arcade. Not sure when and exactly where…
Aloft is a Starwood hotel concept along the lines of a Hotel Indigo – kind of a dialed-down W clearly targeting a young, hip crowd. Stayed at one in Chapel Hill a few wks ago.

Rising Appalachia/R.I.S.E. Collective date is from the Rising Appalachia FB page… Also hear there is a show at Warren Wilson tonight. Guessing the Over Easy gig is canceled.
