Ashvegas Hot Sheet: Long, long lines at the DMV in Asheville

Share

Here’s more of what’s going around, including more about those long lines at the DMV. Here were go:

-Hatch Coffee is the name of a new coffee shop coming to the Hopey & Co. grocery store/pizzeria/tap room complex on South French Broad Ave. in Asheville.

-The old Bob Lawrence Power Equipment building on Broadway in the Five Points neighborhood was recently demolished. Next up: a new apartment building.

-Lines at N.C. DMV offices are ridiculously long this summer. If you’re renewing a license or trying to get the new Real ID, here are a few tips: Go first thing in the morning if you can, and during the middle of the week, because Mondays and Fridays are particularly crushed; make an appointment, but know that appointments are scheduled out six weeks or more. Good luck.

-East Fork Pottery is busy renovating its new Short McDowell Ave. building in Asheville for a new manufacturing center.

-The owner’s of Mojo Kitchen & Lounge, Chef A.J. Gregson and Autumn Pittman, have purchased Webo’s BBQ in the River Ridge Shopping Center. They’ll keep doing barbecue, but they’re adding vegetarian/vegan options.

-Look for a lot more music offerings from the Block Off Biltmore bar/venue located in the YMI Building at the corner of Eagle and Market streets. Local music promoter Sam Katz, of Charlie Traveler Events, is now booking music for them. Katz has most recently been handling booking at Ambrose West, and the Altamont Theatre before that.

Eliada Farms Week started this weekend and goes on into this week. It is part of an effort to revitalize Eliada Homes’ 100-year-old farming tradition.

TEDx Asheville is coming up on Sept. 9.

-The first RADfest is set for Oct. 13-14 at the Grey Eagle. The music festival line-up includes Diet Cig, LSD and the Search for God, Anna Burch, Linqua Franqa and much more.

Wondering if the developer will be building a greenway along the creek behind the property.

Also demolished next to Bob Lawrence’s shop was the 19th century stables building. Probably the last of its kind in Asheville. I hope the parts were salvaged.
