Ashvegas Hot Sheet: French Broad Chocolate Factory opens Friday

There’s a ton happening, as always, including the opening of the new French Broad Chocolate Factory. Here’s a quick look:

-The new French Broad Chocolate Factory location opens Friday in its new Riverside Drive space in mid-November, and it couldn’t be more impressive. A spacious cafe will feature coffee, baked goods and sweet treats. The factory will produce the chocolate we’ve come to know and love (they’ve got a new refrigeration unit that cools chocolate blocks on the spot). And the entire space is built to accommodate tour groups who will learn the history of chocolate, see how it’s processed, tempered and molded, and enjoy samples along the way. All this is in addition to the chocolate lounge on Pack Square, as well as their former chocolate factory space on the Asheville South Slope, which is being remodeled right now into an ice cream cafe. Congratulations!

-A new broth and noodle shop called The Brothel is coming to Asheville in 2019. It’s the work of Chef Camp Boswell, formerly of The Junction. Follow them on Instagram at @thebrothelshop. The location: the S&W Building, where a new food hall is coming together.

-In other noodle shop action, Itto Ramen Bar & Tappas is planned for 630 Haywood Road in West Asheville, the former location of the beloved Lucky Otter burrito shop.

-Galactic Pizza, a delicious new pizza joint, is now open on Sardis Road. The restaurant is owned by the following, according to Mountain Xpress: Jonathan Robinson, part owner of The Admiral, and Natalia Robinson of Tastee Diner; DeSoto Lounge owners Sabrina White and Tim McMurrin; and Doug Ellington, who owns the 339 Sardis Road building.

DoorDash, a food delivery service, has arrived in Asheville. The company website includes a long list of restaurants, but some restaurant owners say they haven’t signed up with the service.

Waitr, another food delivery service, has also arrived in Asheville.

-Allegiant airlines announced this week that it would be adding twice-a-week nonstop service from Asheville Regional Airport to Sarasota starting in February. Asheville Regional Airport is one of the fastest-growing small airports in the country, with 28 consecutive months of growth and 12 consecutive months of double-digit growth. Tuesday’s announcement is the fourth new nonstop route to be added in just three months, and the sixth new route announcement this year, according to the airport.

Non-stop to Sarasota/Bradenton is a pretty sweet deal. Before this, the only option was St. Pete which was a cluster of both traffic jams and bridge tolls to get over the bay.
