More of what’s going around, including forecasts calling for snow around Asheville this week:

-Michael Selverne, a music industry veteran who moved to Asheville a few years ago and has lifted the local music scene with his expertise, recently fell ill, with friends and colleagues pulling for his recovery. Selverne is a musician and music producer and publisher, as well as a manager and attorney. He’s worked with everyone from Motley Crue and Guns and Roses to India.Arie and the Wu-Tang Clan. He recently produced a record for the Asheville Symphony at Echo Mountain Studios that featured a number of musicians, including Steep Canyon Rangers and Rising Appalachia. He’s a member of Asheville Music Professionals.

-Snow flurries are expected Tuesday and Wednesday in Asheville, with forecasters predicting accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Check Ray’s Weather for more info.

-Permits have been pulled for construction work at 674 Merrimon Ave. in space formerly occupied by a Jersey Mike’s sub shop. The work is being done under the name Waku Waku.

-Asheville Chef William Dissen, owner of The Market Place restaurant in downtown Asheville, recently announced on social media that he’s opening a new eatery called Billy D’s Fried Chicken at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, with bigger plans to come. In the meantime, Dissen is nearing the opening of his new Charlotte restaurant, Haymaker.

-The Chop Shop Butchery on Charlotte Street in north Asheville recently announced via social media that the 7-year-old shop is now owned and operated by the butchers who work there; they’ve also promised more “exciting news in the weeks to come.”

-Ashley English, the Asheville author of several homesteading, cooking and entertaining books, is set to launch her latest work in April. It’s called Southern From Scratch.

-The second Women’s March on Asheville is set for Jan. 20.

-The official launch party for the Reach Fund is set for Jan. 26. The Reach Fund is a partnership among real estate professionals, community leaders and Homeward Bound of WNC to end chronic homelessness in the community.

-Did you know: That the Asheville Regional Airport Authority offers incentives for the location and/or expansion of industries or other businesses in the area served by the authority? The offers are made on a case-by-case basis, an authority spokeswoman tells me.

-In case you missed it: Asheville City Council last week approved new rules that effectively bans whole-house short-term rentals. The Mountain Xpress has a great recap here of the Jan. 9 voted to restrict whole-house short-term rentals citywide.
