-This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Asheville nonprofit RiverLink, which has been working on the environmental and economic revival of the French Broad River corridor over the years. There are lots of special events planned. The anniversary also coincides with the 100th anniversary of the devastating French Broad River flood of 1916.
-Asheville Convention and Visitors Bureau is hiring a marketing project manager.
-Asheville Brewers Supply is holding a free educational seminar geared toward “those interested in starting, just starting, or thinking of expanding their own brewery, winery, cidery, or distillery.” The event is set for 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 at Catawba Brewing on Banks Avenue.
-Carolina Public Press is holding a free public forum to talk about guns and gun policy in North Carolina. The event is set for 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, at the United Way Building in Asheville. The forum includes a light breakfast and a moderated panel discussion among state Reps. John Ager (D-Buncombe), Susan Fisher (D-Buncombe) and Brian Turner (D-Buncombe), according to a press release, as well as Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan. Frank Taylor, managing editor of Carolina Public Press, will moderate the event, which also includes a public question and answer session with the panelists.
