Ashvegas council candidate Keith Thomson makes a prediction

Share

Ashvegas City Council candidate Keith Thomson sent us a little prediction here at Ashvegas. He was responding to our post noting that we spotted him pow-wowing with Roger downtown just before the primary:

Roger Derrough founded Dinner for the Earth (nee Earth Fare) in 1975 in the building on Merrimon across from the Hop that was knocked down by a car this month.

Roger’s company now has
15 stores in 4 states. How’s that for Healthy Growth? Yes Roger and his whole family is supporting me, as are many of the pioneer entrepreneurs who have made Asheville, at least the good parts, what it is today. Witness the endorsement made by Match our Mountains ( www.matchourmountains.org )

Against the predictions of bloggers and columnists alike, I won a spot in the general election, and here is my prediction. I will be among the new council members elected on November 8. I would appreciate your vote in early voting and on Nov. 8th.

Yours for Asheville,
Keith Thomson

To remind faithful readers, we at Ashvegas were 100 percent correct in our pre-primary predictions. Now we will reiterate our general election predictions: Joe Dunn wins mayor, with council members Holly Jones and Carl Mumpower winning re-election. Robin Cape, we predict, will take the third seat (which is now Dunn’s).

Keith, there is a way in – you better be pulling hard for Councilwoman Terry Bellamy. If she wins, you can be appointed to fill her empty seat. But we predict that you will not be one of the top three vote-getters for council – you didn’t finish high enough in the primary.

The Dunn-Bellamy race is going to be close – no doubt about it. But right now, we’re picking Dunn.

Well, Thomson gets some points on the hope springs eternal front, anyway. Blinders are a political necessity for a candidate, no?

Will say, though, that I’m surprised to see you sticking so hard to those Dunn guns. From where I sit there seems to be a lot of rallying going on behind that Progressive Banner. I think even old Dr. Monotone is starting to watch his back.

The most interesting question is who gets that fourth slot in the event that Bellamy wins and Mumpower manages to retain his seat — I think we’ll be seeing Mumpower sweating some bullets about just how progressive his peers will be.

O, I am so going to love collecting on this one. No $$ on the line yet. But soon.

You are so wrong about Dunn. Are we laying $ down yet?
