Ashvegas commenter: I’ve no need for either Whole Foods or Greenlife

Here’s the comment, from loyal reader Been There, on the continuing discussion about Whole Foods buying Greenlife:

Ingles is not sitting down and watching.  With coupons, I can buy healthy, free range no antibiotics or other blah blah.  Oh yeah, farmer’s market too.

Need beer?  Get a growler and drink fresh.

I haven’t tread in Green life or Earth Fare in some time.  No need.

Well, I am not naive enough to think that meat, poultry or fish just magically shows up on Styrofoam trays covered in plastic.

Nothing is perfect. Me included.

They sell organic meat at Ingles. But if you look closely you will see the animals are slaughtered at the same places they slaughter all the other types of meat.

Yes, Ingles has vastly improved in recent years. Most of their stores carry a very good selection of organic, free-range, hormone-free, healthy, etc. etc. food products.

Also, Wal-Mart has a good selection of organic products and has rapidly become the leading force in organic goods nationwide with its unmatched buying and distribution power. Whole Foods is not the leading company in this niche of the grocery business — its the huge chains like Wal-Mart, Kroger, Ralphs, Vons, Publix, etc. that are leading the way.

I’ve also lived in places where Whole Foods has stores and have enjoyed shopping there, BUT they are always expensive and have very limited selections of many basic grocery products.

I also dislike them because of the bizarre behavior of their CEO Mr. Mackey who has strange views and got caught red-handed a few years ago trying to manipulate the company’s stock price. Whole Foods is just another corporation trying to make money anyway they can.
