New Orleans-based artist Ashley Longshore has been hanging out and doing some work in and around Asheville recently. She visited the Biltmore Estate, and stopped to snap the above pic in one of their beloved sunflower fields
Longshore’s joyful, bawdy feminism and unrelenting message of female empowerment has won her legions of fans. This New York Times profile of Longshore from April 2018 does an excellent job of describing her work. One snippet:
Working outside the corridors of the mainstream art world, she has become an avatar of pop feminism to thousands of followers, who view and buy her work on her proudly profane Instagram feed, her website and, most recently, in the rarefied precincts of Bergdorf Goodman in New York.
