Washington is widely respected for his film work. His awards include Golden Globe awards, a Tony award and two Oscars – one as best supporting actor in Glory and one for best actor in Training Day.
Just yesterday, Washington celebrated his 60th birthday. He is married to Pauletta Washington, his wife of more than three decades, who hails from just over in Catawba County.
The spotting of Washington in Asheville caps a HUGE year in local celebrity watching. Go here for my Year in Review of celebrity spotting in Asheville.

Ok…we need to stop seeming so star struck…it looks lame…Asheville is a badass town…chill
LOL…glad he was here shopping but we have lots of other celebrities around, and then there’s always the rumor of the Obongos moving here …lol…
Andi McDowell grew tired of Biltmore Forest and fled with her international debutante daughter 😉
“Obongo”?
Please explain.
“Obongo” a patently racist term for Obama or African Americans. RedHotPoker knows this…………
I know, and I know that Mr. Fisher Caudle is well aware of that fact. I’d just like to see him try to talk his way out of it.
Why would anyone think ‘Obongo’ is a racist term? It really means he’s a 1960s hipster, which he is, right ?
So, haunted head …email me at
unaffiliatedvoter@charter.net and let’s talk…K? Your ball if you have the guts to ID yourself…
“It really means he’s a 1960s hipster”?
That’s dumb, even for you. I look forward to the verbal gymnastics you’ll need to do to explain that one.
Casually shopping? Well that’s no fun. I was hoping that when he saw that he was recognized, he started yelling “I’m putting charges on all you bitches!”
I saw Scarlett Johansson at the J&S Cafeteria in Mills River refilling her sweet tea
Meryl Streep was in Beds, Bath, and Beyond. She needed a new set of bath towels.
Oh, please.
I think that wikipedia section might be out of the date. Denzel actually has three oscar nominations. He was nominated for Best Actor in 2012 for Flight.
OMG! Look Who’s Coming to Dinner is one of my favorite movies!!!
