Press release here:

O.Henry’s, established in 1976 and now located at 237 Haywood St. in Asheville has changed hands. The previous owners, Jim Haggerty & Kevin Austin have owned the popular bar since August 2011. Together they have completely updated and brought new life to the long running bar bringing it back to its former glory. A friendly, informal gathering place that locals and visitors have been drawn to for many years.

O. Henry’s gets its origin from what was once a neighborhood lunch café in downtown Asheville that was “Gay Friendly” visited by the local gay community back in the late 60’s. Now in its current location at 237 Haywood Street it has expanded to what is O.Henry’s today.

“We are incredibly proud to have had the opportunity to revitalize this local gathering place and give back to the Asheville LGBTQ community.” “We are simply moving into our retirement and making plans for what might be next. An extended vacation for sure, but we’d sincerely like to express our thanks to everyone who has helped along the way to bring O.Henry’s to what it is now and with their continued support where it will be in the future,” stated Austin & Haggerty.

The new owner Derick Boyd, local to Asheville, will assume operations on February 3, 2014. Boyd has been a lead Bartender of O.Henry’s, and has spent a large potion of his career in the hospitality industry.

“I am proud to be the torch bearer of this vital part of our Asheville Community. I will endeavor to provide Asheville and all surrounding areas with an establishment that embraces fond memories of old and new experiences for the future,” stated Boyd.
