Asheville wine blogger debuts wine calendar

Here’s the note I received recently from The Wine Mule:

Hey:

I’ve been writing this blog for a few years, recently decided to start paying attention to the local scene, and just yesterday realized (thanks to a distributor rep) that it might be useful to have a local calendar of wine events. Yours for the linking. (Don’t read any of the other stuff unless you have a morbid desire to experience wine geekyness.)

October 10: Florencio Lopez Navarro, a leading importer of Spanish wines, will be on hand for a dinner at Cúrate. Navarro’s portfolio appears to concentrate on reasonably priced wines, mostly from Spain but also from other parts of Europe and South America. He imports Viña Alarba garnacha from Calatayud, an old standby that sold for less than $10; haven’t seen it in a while. He also brings in Balnea, an upscale Verdejo from Rueda; and the phenomenal Semaphor 7, a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Aragones and Trincadeira from the up-and-coming Alentejo appellation in Portugal. Cúrate Tapas Bar is at 11 Biltmore Avenue; the event starts at 6 pm; cost is $75/person all-inclusive, and tickets are available only from Appalachian Vintner, Inc., 745 Biltmore Ave. Call 828-505-7500.
