For Scene photographer Erin Brethauer, a successful photograph makes her linger and learn.
“It reveals something about a person, a place and certainly the photographer,” said Brethauer. “Your personal work is just that, personal. It’s what you spend your personal time doing. It’s what you love.”
Her new show at the Asheville Area Arts Council is a quiet study representing two bodies of work. The first is a collection of subtle photographs taken while exploring New Orleans and Hayward, Wis., near her home town of Milwaukee. The second, “Autism Camp,” explores the different ways people with autism communicate. A reception will celebrate the show 6-9 p.m. Friday, and the exhibit will run until April 27.
