Asheville Scene: Microcinema group spotlights independent film

Share

From my story in today’s Asheville Scene:

Lisa Sousa and Charlotte Taylor want people to see movies they might not otherwise see, and in unexpected places.

So the two film enthusiasts created Mechanical Eye Microcinema and show independent movies in a different location around Asheville each month. The group has been meeting since September.

“The idea is to show stuff that wouldn’t otherwise be shown,” Sousa said. “It’s more independent, experimental movies and documentaries that are not being distributed like mainstream films,” she said. “The microcinema is a reference to the venue, which is usually small and unusual.”

Mechanical Eye Microcinema’s next screening will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Phil Mechanic Building.

There’s already a great company called Microcinema, hopefully that will not be too confusing. Good luck!
