One of Asheville’s best known event planners is creating a new temple honoring food and music in downtown Asheville.
It’s the old Asheville Masonic Temple, but Shay Brown wants folks to think of it in a new light.
Brown’s had an office for her company in the historic Asheville Masonic Temple (designed by Richard Sharp Smith, the guy who supervised construction of the Biltmore House) now for a few years. She also manages the building for the masons, who back in 2008 announced an effort to open the building up to more public use. (I wrote about it for the Mountain Xpress here.)
The idea, says Brown, is to create a one-of-a-kind experience in the building’s one-of-a-kind theater space. The events will also help Brown raise money for upkeep of the grand old building.
To kick things off, Brown is offering a March 24 dinner featuring Chefs Steven Goff and Graham House. It’s called Revelry: An Intimate Experience at The Asheville Masonic Temple Dinner.
Goff is an amazing former Asheville restaurant owner and chef who moved to the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area. He now co-owns and is executive chef of Brinehaus Meat and Provisions, a food truck and catering service based in the Triangle. House, formerly of 4th & Swift in Atlanta, now stars at the beloved Sovereign Remedies in downtown Asheville.
Desserts will be provided by Cakes by Gray and coffee by High Five Coffee. Sovereign Remedies will provide a wine pairing and a full bar for the evening that diners can purchase depending on what they want.
Comedian Clint Nohr will host the event and interview the chefs during the dinner. Local band Vendetta Crème will provide the entertainment before and after the dinner, which is a fundraiser for the Asheville City Market and the nonprofit Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project. (Tickets are $75.)
Look for more dinners to come. Meantime, Brown is also working on a booking a music series. More on that to come later this spring.
