Press release here:

Asheville Mardi Gras is bringing back the city’s only season long festival! We are honored to represent the true spirit of our town during the perfect time to do so, Mardi Gras. Join us for an entire season that will draw all of this area’s most colorful, funky, and artistic people together to revel as a community. Asheville celebrates the entire Mardi Gras season with everything from a lavish parade and Queen’s Ball on Bacchus Sunday, March 2nd to an authentic Cajun Cook-off with some of Western North Carolina’s best chefs (care to step up to the plate?). From January to March, watch for events and happenings popping up all over town.

The opening celebration to kick off this spectacular eight week winter rumpus is the traditional Twelfth Night party, always twelve nights after Christmas (January 6). This years’ official Twelfth Night party is at 11 on Grove at 7 p.m. with live music and an appearance by Asheville’s very own Second Line, a New Orleans’ style marching band. This is the night that the King and Queen of Asheville Mardi Gras 2014 will be chosen by fate from the crowd and crowned to lead the parade. King Cake (provided by Short Street Cakes) will be cut at 8:30 p.m. and King and Queen will be crowned once the baby in the cake is discovered by one lucky attendee! It could be you so join us! This event will be $10 at the door, or FREE to all active 2014 AMG Members. Memberships will be available at the door. As always, costumery and buffoonery are welcome, but not required.

Asheville Mardi Gras is a social aid and pleasure club as well as an arts and culture group. Our purpose is to strengthen Western North Carolina’s community connections through promoting creativity, frivolity and celebration, based on the traditions of Mardi Gas. For more information on becoming a member and all 2014 AMG events, check us out at www.AshevilleMardiGras.org or join our groups page on Facebook. See you on Twelfth Night.
