Asheville color show is on

This weekend was simply spectacular, and I can’t let it pass without noting. Cool, cool nights and days warming into the 80s. The past few days, we’ve seen 40-degree temperature swings. Crazy.

But beautiful. It was almost as if you could see the leaves changing before your very eyes. And the sky was so clear that you could see for miles and miles. These are the days that convince visitors to decide on the spot to move to Asheville. Incredible.

It must be hard to go through life always looking for the negative spin on a sunny day.

Because it's true Blanche. The economy here sucks and always has. The recession has made it even worse in WNC. There are no corporate jobs that pay well. Only low paying service jobs.

Nice place to live if you have a lot of money to bring with you. Otherwise, it sucks.

Why are there always Debbie Downers who insist on ruining anything positive said about this wonderful community of ours?

Beautiful weather and scenery for sure.

But, those leaf peepers will get a sudden dose of reality when they move here and find out how lousy the local economy is if one wants to work.

That has always been the Achille's heel of living in Asheville and WNC. If you want a decent job here, forget it.
