The Asheville Citizen-Times has announced four of the five partners it is working with as part of a nationwide grant-funded project to team established newspaper with blogs, or hyper-local, Web sites.
From the story:
ASHEVILLE — The Citizen-Times is partnering with five Western North Carolina Web-based news and information groups in as part of a new initiative to enhance local news coverage and seek out innovative ways to collaborate between organizations.
The effort, called WNC LINC (Western North Carolina Local Information Cooperative), is being co-managed by former Citizen-Times staff members Lydia Carrington and Angie Newsome.
Citizen-Times partners are:
– The Southern Highland Reader, a Sylva-based news site that provides coverage from counties in the far western part of the state. www.thesouthernhighlandreader.com
– AskAsheville, a multiplatform information site focused on Asheville and Buncombe County. www.askasheville.com
– The Artful Parent, an Asheville-based parenting and arts blog. www.artfulparent.typepad.com
– Montford.org, the news and information site of the Montford Community Association for Asheville’s historic Montford neighborhood.
A fifth partner, likely an area college group, also will be added.
I wrote earlier about the Citizen-Times generous invitation to have me join, and about my decision to decline. More on this soon.
