Asheville artist inspires Asheville fashion designer

During a recent meeting at the Asheville Downtown Association, clothing designer and artist Marylou Marsh was inspired by a painting created by local artist Adam Strange that was hanging in the office. The idea for the piece, according to Strange, which depicts an aerial view of downtown in vivid color and mosaic shapes, came from the invention of Google Earth. The abstract image composed of lines representing streets and highways as seen from above, in Marylou’s mind, beautifully transformed into Downtown fashion. 

 

Marylou’s inspiration led her to create an Empire A-line dress and Dolman Sleeve Tunic, now on window display and for sale at Spiritex in downtown Asheville. The form-fitted sheath with square neck and bishop sleeves takes its Rococo Revival architectural detailing from the Public Service building located on Wall Street. The building’s prominent cornice and window section is printed using digital dye sublimation on recycled poly. Also on display is the downtown gathered skirt, depicting a unique street scene with some of Asheville’s most prominent landmarks, performers and personalities.
