The Asheville Regional Airport’s partnership with Ashvegas.com to produce a monthly pop-up concert and podcast, dubbed Music on the Fly, recently won a national marketing award.
Music on the Fly, part pop-up concert and party podcast, brings live local music to the airport every month. The partnership (which included producer Matt Johnson) launched in May. It has featured a variety of local musicians, from songwriters including Laura Blackley, Bradford Carson, Ben Phan and Jane Kramer to bands such as The Cheeksters, The Moon and You and Abby the Spoon Lady with Fly By Night Rounders.
Musicians show up at an airport gate and play to an audience of travelers. The music is recorded and presented as a special series of the ongoing AVL Informer podcast by Ashvegas.com. The idea is to bring some of Asheville’s great musical talent to Asheville’s air transportation hub.
Stay tuned for the next edition!

This is a great project. I know it happens at other airports (BWI has an ongoing thing at its baggage check) but doing it at the gates is more of a challenge, and I’m glad you’ve been able to manage it.
