Appalachian Tavern to open in former Northside Grill in north Asheville

A couple is planning to open the Appalachian Tavern in the former Northside Grill sports bar and restaurant on Merrimon Avenue in north Asheville. Northside Grill closed last year.

Early word is that opening will come in late May. The plan is for fine dinning on first level, with ore casual and sports bar upstairs.

Longtime Asheville residents also known this as the location for the much-loved Grace Restaurant.

Good luck to the new owners!

Is this dead in the water?

This is exciting news for North Asheville. The Northside was certainly no gem, but it was the only place to watch sports in our neck of the woods. I’m hoping that this place will raise the bar on food and service from its predecessor. The idea of fine dining upstairs suggests as much.

Now, let’s see what “Casa Maya” brings us!

Smytty, where is Casa Maya gonna be? I’ve heard about but don’t know where it is, exactly.

Location of Beaver Lake Seafood, Fraziers, Hacienda Del Sol… just past Beaver Lake.

Hoping it will fare better!

Got it. Thanks!

BTW, they are open now. Had an experience to be remembered… I’m not one to bad mouth a restaurant their first week of business, but wow. Would be interested to know what anyone else has to say.

Hey Ashvegas…I may be remembering wrong, but I believe Grace Restaurant was what is now Vinnies.

Vinnie’s was the Athens. The much-loved Grace was further north on Merrimon.
