Another one drops out

Another Republican has announced publicly that he won’t be running for the 11th Congressional District seat now held by U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler. So now it comes down to whether Charles Taylor will declare his candidacy. We expect an announcement this week.

Here’s the latest:

Deputy Minority Leader, (state) Senator Tom Apodaca, has announced he will not seek the 11th district congressional seat.

Apodaca said he has been overwhelmed by the number of people who have encouraged him to run for Congress. Although Apodaca feels this congressional seat will definitely be in play in 2008, he believes that returning to Raleigh would be the best thing for his district.

“My family, friends, and supporters have been wonderful in their overwhelming encouragement for me to run. As of now, I’m in a position to do more for western North Carolina in Raleigh than I would be in Washington. I have made a commitment to my State Senate colleagues and my constituents by serving in a leadership role and I need to fulfill that responsibility.”

For addition information contact Senator Apodaca at his district office at (828) 696-0574

Senator Apodaca thinks that John Boyle would make a fine candidate for the congressional seat.
