Hundreds of people came out to the WNC Nature Center this afternoon to see Nibbles the Groundhog and hear her Groundhog Day prediction. Lots of people also came out to see celebra-star Andie MacDowell, star of the movie Groundhog Day.
As the crowd thronged around Andie, the starlet told us that she was, indeed, a “groundhog whisperer.” She held Nibbles, listened intently to Nibbles, then made the pronouncement – six more weeks of winter.
But Nibbles had much more say than just that, Andie said. Nibbles wanted to impress upon people that the message of Groundhog Day the movie was that once you started caring more for others than yourself, you’d be free, Andie said. Nibbles also wanted people to really understand and appreciate the beauty and importance of the nature all around us here in Western North Carolina, Andie said.
There you have it. Hurrah for Groundhog Day! Hurrah for Nibbles! Hurrah for Andie!

The same day the otter died, the older Cougar did too. It was a tough week there.
They are actively seeking both in the zoo animal procurement world, I have been assured.
Dad, indeed.
Thanks Zen!
Ashevegas chick, that is horrible! they need to get the little otter a new buddy!
went there and it was great! nibbles is the coolest little rodent.
btw– one of the two resident otters died last week, and the surviving one is just inconsolable. it was heartbreaking.
What a sweet shot! And the crowd scene shot was great. Brought it all home, man.
Oh, that Nipples has all the luck.
