From loyal reader Kathi, offering more info on Asheville’s connection and participation in the big South By Southwest conference in Austin:
Hey Jason —
Responding to your blog post about who from AVL is at SXSW:
Pam Lewis, Sr VP of Entrepreneurial Development for AdvantageWest is at SXSW once again. Last year she connected with internationally recognized social media guru, consultant and book author Peter Shankman, who then agreed to come to WNC as keynote speaker at the May 5th 2011 Carolina Connect conference for entrepreneurs and investors. Peter Shankman is founder of HARO (Help A Reporter Out) and much more (www.petershankman.com).
Among the events Pam is attending this week at SXSW is the screening of the film made last year in WNC, Road to Nowhere, which AdvantageWest/WNC Film Commission helped with (Pam is also the film commissioner for WNC). It’s under the category of “Festival Favorites: Acclaimed standouts and selected previous premieres from festivals around the world” in the SXSW Film Festival.
Also, as someone else pointed out, Creative Allies is at SXSW, too. Creative Allies is an entrepreneurial venture that AdvantageWest has supported with an Advantage Opportunity Fund loan.
Thanks Kathi!

Anything directed by Monte Hellman is worth a look. He made one of my favorite 70s films, COCKFIGHTER, starring Warren Oates.
Another total boondoggle courtesy of Advantage West! Asheville is not Austin and never will be.
Advantage West has got to be one of the most useless organizations in WNC and a waste of the tax dollars they use.
I expect Susan Fisher, and other washed up politicians (both Republicans and Democrats) to go to work for Advantage West when their political lives end. What a waste!
Susan Fisher is the queen of junkets…..remember her Hawaii trips courtesy of the Asheville Airport Authority?
