A tip of the hat to MountainX

As a special Valentine to its readers, the Mountain XPress today unveiled a new web site. It’s so shiny and new, you’ll need to wear shades. It’s also newsier and sharper. Check it out.

Congratulations, Xers!

Yeah, start-up can be rough. Particularly to make a site look good on Windoze computers- I know I’ve had to jump through programming hoops to make my own business site work on Windoze running Explorer.

But our Web dude fixed the FireFox hiccup as soon as I passed along concerns mentioned here.

Might be well to remember that a newspaper site is a good bit more complicated than a simple blog. Links to 12 years of searchable archived material, multiple advertisers, updates from both the print production and Web production departments, input from multiple reporters, plus allowing comments from readers. I’m not much of a geek and don’t know all the ins and outs, but I do know that AC-T has all of the assets of the largest newspaper corporation in the country behind their Web efforts and we have the guy down the hall.

I think our new site is great.

Thanks Ash, for the notice, and thanks to everyone else for the comments about the new mountainx.com.

We’re still switching content and redesign elements into the site, so keep coming back — and keep telling us what’s working and what’s not; e-mail us at xpress@mountainx.com.

Happy Valentine’s, and lots of love from Xpress,

Seriously people, give the MtX a break. It’s a huge improvement to the blah site they had before, and I am sure it’s only going to get better.

And if you still don’t like it, go try designing your own.

They appear to be fixing some pages for FF, it is coming together.

Having been part of the launch of a major website or two, it ain’t easy, and it does not always happen right away.

It is okay, in a 2001 sort of way.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed in it too – it looks like junk in FF. The only thing they did right was add the ability to comment on individual articles (like on the ACT website).

Yup, Firefox and the new MountainX.com don’t play well together. But Bird on the Moon and Edgy Mama both got shout-outs on the front page. Hooray!

And, best of all, your link just sends me back to your site, not to MtnX.

Crap, your right BB. how did this happen?

Did these guys just pay some high schooler to make it and then never tested it outside of explorer?

Someone needs to get fired. This is incredibly embarassing.

ouch

BB February 14, 2007 - 9:12 pm

it’s also (badly) broken in firefox. wow, what a screwup.

Yikes…I don’t know Ash. It looks like amateur hour to me.

Too much white. No dividers between posts. It looks like a pre=made my space template.

Plus Serif fonts = terrible on white backgrounds.
