Loyal reader Brian tells us that local film company 6;14 Films has landed a distribution deal for its movie, Greater Southbridge. From Brian:
Five years in the making, Greater Southbridge is the first documentary from Asheville-based 6;14 Films and its Director Rod Murphy. In Greater Southbridge, Murphy, along with his creative partner Scott B. Morgan, deftly captured the heart and soul of a gritty New England burg in decline by telling its story through a collection of oddball characters who occupy the town’s fringe.
The resulting documentary is wickedly funny, frequently controversial and ultimately a heartwarming portrayal of a community. Set to the beat of a soundtrack that features the music of Drums and Tuba, Spoon and American Analog Set – the film quickly became a critical success, garnering 11 awards at film festivals across the country.
With its release under the Go-Kart label, the film is now available nationwide at Amazon.com, Netfilx, Blockbuster Video, and (perhaps, most importantly) independent DVD and video stores. Locally, the film will be available to rent or buy at Orbit DVD in West Asheville next week.
6;14 Films is currently hard at work on its third feature length documentary, Wander Down. Their second film Rank Strangers: The Story of Mrs. Hyatt’s Oprahouse (shot here in Asheville) is currently in post production.
We say congratulations to the film company and good luck with future endeavors.
There’s a story about the deal in the New York Times. Go here to check out 6;14 Films.
