Confirmed: Tattoo star Ami James to open shop on Wall Street in Asheville

ami_james_2013UPDATE: WLOS confirms that Ami James will be moving into the bead store on Wall Street. Barry Olen, owner of Beads & Beyond, says his shop is moving to 246 Miller Road in Fairview. Thanks to loyal reader Jen for the heads-up.

ORIGINAL POST Jan. 3: Folks on Wall Street in downtown Asheville are buzzing about the possibility that tattoo star Ami James is planning to open a shop there.

James, a star of the reality TV show Miami Ink and NY Ink, recently moved to Asheville and announced he was planning to open a place in downtown Asheville. The hot rumor is that it’s going to be on Wall Street.

    He’s a good artist but because of the show he was on and others, people think that’s how it works. So if he opens shop here they’ll get a reality check that no a back piece wasn’t drawn and tattooed in that hour. Yes it will cost a lot. No there won’t be any fighting or antics. We have great shops here with hometown artist that are our stars. It could be good because of the youth coming in but terrible for local and established tattooing business. Get Hollywood out of Asheville. It’s not even what it used to be. Just a bunch of rich yuppies changing our traditions and building too much we don’t need. Get out of here with this nonsense.

      From what I have heard he is opening a private shop,not a street shop, etc. Appointment only and not cheap. Locals will keep going to local tattoo shops while he does people from out of town (or all over the world). Calm down.
