UPDATED 12/14:

Magnolia Ray is name of new restaurant coming soon to Woodfin going in where Baja Cafe used to be.

Daniel and Virginia Kaufmann are opening New Orleans-flavored spot. Chef/owner Daniel says he will do staples like beans and rice, shrimp and grits, but doesn’t want to be pigeon-holed as a “New Orleans” restaurant.

Word on the street is that there’s a New Orleans-style restaurant coming to the space that was formerly the Baja Cafe at 72 Weaverville Hwy. in Woodfin. Painting and other renovation work is well underway.

Folks will remember that the Baja Cafe closed last month. The restaurant called its food California Mexican food, and it replaced the former Curras Dom, which closed in late 2009.

More details to come.

Good choice for that area. (I’m biased, living nearby.) As long as it’s not another Mexican restaurant or burger-type joint. Viva variety!
