downtown_market_asheville_2014Word on the street is that there’s a new brewery coming to downtown Asheville. The location – the bottom floor of the Downtown Market on South French Broad Avenue.

Here’s the background: earlier this year, Troy and Charlie Ball of Asheville Distilling Co., makers of Troy & Sons moonshine, bought the Downtown Market building at 42 S. French Broad Ave. The bought the 42,000-square-foot building for $720,000 and have big plans for changes, which include: an expanded Hopey & Co. grocery store, residential apartment units and a salon.

I don’t have details yet on the new brewery, but I’ll share ’em when I get ’em.

This is a LOCAL shop – memories of Royston Vasey and the League of Gentlemen.

Haha, “Amazing Stalethings” cracks me up!

I’ve always referred to it as “Used Food,” a reference to a Eugene Levy skit on Second City TV that I’m old enough to remember.

Man, thanks a lot. I was waiting for a new brewery to open up closer to my office. As it is I have to walk like 4 blocks to Jack off the Wood (does that even count as a brewery?). And this one is sure to be awesome. Troy and Sons, the same guys who make legal moonshine. I suppose their flagship brew will be a 2.5% Trappist Ale. Let’s take something renowned for being strong as hell, and remove half of the alcohol. Brilliant! And then lets start a brewery in the basement of an Amazing Stalethings. The only thing missing from this plan: a salon.

Jack off the Wood can be a very stimulating place.
