Word on the street is that New Belgium Brewing is planning to announce soon that it has chosen Asheville as the site for its East Coast brewing operation. We’ve heard it before, but sources are apparently sounding more certain than ever.

Russ Bowen of WLOS teases with tweets today:

New Belgium says Asheville and philly still on list not ready to comment but does say very interested in Asheville

Multiple sources say New Belgium is coming to Asheville. Announcement coming possibly this week.

There seems to be big news brewing. Will break w/in days. Bottles up? Fingers crossed

I’ve also heard that Tommy Tuten & Johnny Penland Auctions on Craven Street in the River Arts District is telling people they are moving out in coming months. That’s a story in and of itself. The auction has been operating there since 1985. But the move could also be significant since the auction house is adjacent to the old livestock market property which has been rumored to be the site of the New Belgium brewery.

Also, Mountain Xpress beer writer Anne Fitten Glenn tweets today:

Hear that @newbelgium’s East Coast Brewery WILL be built in #Asheville. Formal announcement Thursday 4/5. #avlbeer #ncbeer #craftbeer

From Asheville resident Dusty Allison, on FB:

All of my valued sources on the street say that New Belgium WILL be building their East coast brewery here in Asheville and that they will be making the formal announcement this Thursday, April 5th! Let’s raise our glasses!

Jennifer Saylor, Bryan Freeborn and 10 others like this.
Blue-Smoke Coffee I’ve got a friend that works at New Belgium and he also confirms it. Asheville was already the micro-brew mica of the East, this seals it.

Laura Mitchell Norris Time to party this week then! Bring the kids! Where and when, Mr. Allison?

Dusty L. Allison Laura – Not sure where or what time they will be making the announcement yet. All talk has been that they will be building on the WNC livestock yard site in the RAD. Possibly there? I will keep you posted as I hear more!
