UPDATED: Details here about the pre-party at ZaPow and 9 p.m pub crawl..

***

Word on the street is that the organizers of the annual Asheville Zombie Walk are throwing in the towel on a 2012 event. The organizers have been boot-strapping the event and apparently don’t have the cash or sponsorships to continue.

The walk of the dead has grown each year for about the past five or six years. What started as a small gathering in Montford ended up as a walk of thousands through the heart of downtown a couple of years ago. Organizers moved the event to the Biltmore Square Mall last year and it was yet another success. More details as they come

I find this sort of ridiculous. There are so many people who would donate and help out with such an event if they were asked to. There’s just zero public relations going on here. They have a fancy little website that never gets updated, but they can’t even set up a facebook page? That’s 100% free PR. This is so disappointing. I suppose now i’ll have to dress up and walk around Asheville at random…

It takes permits to freely walk around the city? Do protest groups have to obtain permits from the city to march through downtown?

Permits from the city, for starters.

I’m a little bit confused … why are there any costs at all associated with putting this on, let alone costs so high that they can’t continue without sponsorship?
