wood_&_spoon_2013East-West Asheville is now coming into its own. Great new business here, and Urban Orchard will be opening in another week or so right across the street. Note the other young businesses in the neighborhood that the press release mentions:

Wood & Spoon Hosts Grand Opening Shindig; Celebrates Neighborhood!

On Saturday October 19, 2013, in West Asheville from 5-8pm, Wood & Spoon will be celebrating the grand opening of their new handmade and vintage home goods shop at 227 Haywood Road in East-West Asheville. Wood & Spoon, founded by husband-and-wife team Carrie-Welles and Mark Craven, is a retail store that carries all manner of “good home finds,” with a focus on locally-made arts and crafts, including fine art, pottery, glassware, custom furniture, and a sweet collection of affordable vintage kitchen items.

The Grand Opening Celebration at Wood & Spoon also comes at a time of great excitement in the neighborhood, sharing the night with the One Year anniversary of VILLAGERS and the Two Year Anniversary of Bari Salon, just up the block. Meanwhile, across the street, the Urban Orchard Cider Co. is preparing to open their doors within a few days, and next-door neighbors Short Street Cakes are launching a new fall pie menu and Day of the Dead festivities. Carrie-Welles and Mark couldn’t be happier to be opening their shop in Block-Party style.

The festivities will include homemade vegetarian snacks and treats, Short Street Cake, and hard cider from the Urban Orchard Cider Co. Several items of store merchandise and gift certificates will be given away throughout the night as well. The intention of the event is to welcome friends and neighbors to the shop, to say thanks to all those who have been so supportive thus far, and to promote the sense of community that has always been is at the heart of Wood & Spoon’s mission.
