WNC Alliance and Blue Ridge Biofuels team up for biofuels tour

What do Willie Nelson, Neil Young and Pearl Jam have in common? They all use biodiesel to power their tour buses—a clean-burning fuel that can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80 percent.

The Western North Carolina Alliance and our friends at Blue Ridge Biofuels are offering a free tour of the Biofuels facility, where you can learn about the process used to create this renewable alternative fuel made from plant oils or animal fats.

The tour will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at the facility at 109 Roberts St., in the River Arts District.

Blue Ridge Biofuels produces and distributes biodiesel for Western North Carolina and the Southeast bulk market. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend. Biodiesel is better for the environment because it has lower green house gas emissions than conventional petroleum diesel. It also provides superior mechanical benefits and extends engine life, and it can be used in any compression-ignition (diesel) engine without the need for modifications.
