What’s up with Pat Ryan’s departure from Asheville Radio Group?

   No media organization will EVER comment on its own bad news – broadcast or print. That is why ashvegas is the only place we get to find-out about these things.

   Why was Pat Ryan let go? I really do not know, but have a guess. It is likely the standard corporate excuse of "budgetary concerns". That is almost always a load of crap – most of these companies make a lot of money – but it is also how unfair decisions involving longtime, valuable employees are justified – as they are walked out of the building.

   It has been said that "Video Killed The Radio Star", but that theory turns-out to be bullshit. Both forms of local broadcasting are being murdered by big business.

   Pat Ryan’s departure is a loss for the community as well as for Saga Communications. Unfortunately, for a company that claims to keep it "local," they seem to have no problem letting go of the established, community-based LOCAL talents. Looks to me the only thing that’s local about Asheville Radio Group is the number of employees they’re sending to the Buncombe County unemployment office.

   I think that’s part of the point, Real Reporter. Asheville Radio Group are erroneously passing themselves off as "local" with their moniker, when in fact, their corporate media just like those they claim to be more "local" than. And thus, a wonderful talent like Pat feel victim to the "harsh realities of the CORPORATE MEDIA BUSINESS."

   I’m with you, Real Reporter. There’s really no place for the negative stuff. It doesn’t do any good. Our opinions/reactions here should be all about Pat. I know I’m repeating some of what others are saying on ashvegas, but here’s how I see it:

   The term “class act” is often times cliché, trite and overused – but not in the case of Pat Ryan. Pat’s well informed, quick witted and has a terrific sense of humor. All those attributes come across on the air, whether it’s as a music deejay, or co-host of the only live sports talk show in WNC. Pat was also doing the work of about four people when he was let go. He ought to be considered any company’s “dream” employee, instead of being shown the door. It is truly a shame listeners here in the mountains have lost Pat Ryan, one of the most talented broadcasters on radio. Let’s all hope this talented, nice and WISE Guy somehow gets himself back on the Asheville-area dial. We need to have more real people there.

   Pat is a terrific radio personality because he’s the same person on the air as he is off the air. That really comes through. His contributions to WOXL and WISE as co-host of the WISE GUYS will be greatly missed. He can certainly hold his head high because he did nothing wrong and fell to the harsh realities of the CORPORATE MEDIA BUSINESS.
   To WHOLENUTTERTHANG, calling anyone a bitter dickhead or a skank makes it sound like you have a problem with bitterness. Remember, falling back on name calling is a crutch for people who can’t make a rational argument with facts.

   Pat Ryan is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. Pat is better off without that bunch of losers. Poorly run by a bitter dickhead. At least, Pat will not have to work with that skank, Dawn Creasman, any more.

    Do a facebook search for "Pat Ryan" – his wall is public. News of his departure is making the rounds. Looks like it wasn’t his choice.
