kiln_firing_wedge_asheville_2_2015This is going to be a fun event. Press release:

Josh Copus, Henry Crissman and Nick Moen are inviting the public to participate in The Mobile Anagama Invitational: Mobile Wood Kiln Firing and Fundraiser Cup Sale that will be taking place at the Wedge Brewing Company Parking lot in Asheville from June 19th – 21st.

The event aims to bring together 100 cups produced by 50 artists (2 cups each) to be fired in a free public demonstration of The Mobile Anagama wood fired ceramics kiln on a trailer on Saturday June 20th. The firing will result in a Fundraiser Cup Sale on the following evening, Sunday June 21st, beginning at 6 pm. Cups will be sold for 40 dollars a piece, giving patrons access to the kegs which the Wedge has so generously agreed to donate. 100% of the funds raised will benefit the Odyssey ClayWorks Scholarship Fund AND an anonymous donor has agreed to match funds raised up to $5000!

We are aware that this is a bit of a last minute arrangement, but the Mobile Anagama was fixin’ to come to town and we couldn’t miss out on this opportunity to make the most of it!

If you are interested in participating please RSVP. Cups may be dropped off anytime between now and June 18th at either Odyssey ClayWorks, Penland School of Crafts or STARworks Center for Creative Enterprises. Cups may also be delivered to the kiln sight in person on Friday June 19th from 9 am – noon. If you need to arrange a special pick up for your cups please contact us. Cups do not necessarily need to be bisqued prior although it is preferred. Glazing prior to delivery is preferred. A select number of glazes will available on site on Friday June 19th. Re-fires are accepted with open arms. All clays and glazes should be cone 10 capable. (If you would like to donate additional finished cups to the sale that would be greatly appreciated as well.)

Henry James Haver Crissman will be giving an artist talk at Odyssey ClayWorks regarding The Mobile Anagama and other projects on Friday June 19th at 7 pm.
