Check it out. Here’s the note from loyal reader Eli of Vortex Doughnuts down on the South Slope:

Hey Jason
Hope you are doing great! On June 25th we are going to be hosting a rad event at Vortex Doughnuts. It is a bike & Coffee crawl to highlight the vibrant coffee and bicycle communities of AVL. It will also be a fundraiser for coffee centric non-profit that we work with called the Chain Collaborative who we’ve worked with on other occasions too. Here is some info about the event. Thanks so much for your time. 🙂

The Coffee Crawl

The Caffeine Crawl which will be held on June 25 at 1 p.m. is a group bike ride that highlights the vibrancy of Asheville’s coffee and bicycle scene while helping international non-profit, The Chain Collaborative, on its school building project in Uganda. I propose each shop donate a small token amount of money and/or have a donation jar and info about the project at each stop on the ride. The ride will hit multiple shops in town where you get a “passport” stamped, showing you hit up each shop on the route, culminating in beer/music/and prizes at the end of the ride on the Vortex/Catawba outdoor seating area.

The Project from Chain Collaborative and who they are:
The Chain Collaborative is a US-based nonprofit organization that partners with local groups, like-minded organizations, and other members of the coffee industry to contribute to sustainable development in the coffee lands. One of our partners, Nyamigoye Coffee Farmers Group (NCFG), is a collective of over 250 coffee farmers in Nyamigoye Parish, Southwestern Uganda. The central tenets and goals of NCFG are to promote better farming practices, enhance the quality of their coffee, sell coffee collectively to reach more markets, and create community projects to contribute to member families’ livelihoods. To address both the need for quality education for farmers’ children and capacity building opportunities for NCFG members, The Chain Collaborative is working alongside NCFG to build Karama Education Center (KEC). KEC will double as a primary school and adult training center for farming and business practices. The Chain Collaborative is excited to have Building Tomorrow on board, an organization that has built over 25 schools in Uganda and counting. With your support, we could bring this grassroots initiative to life!
