“Valley of the Bones,” Asheville singer-songwriter Jane Kramer’s new album, is officially live today. She’ll be celebrating its release with a sold-out show Saturday at Ambrose West in West Asheville.

Here’s the premiere of the video for the song “Valley of the Bones.” The video is part short-form documentary and part music video. It represents a close a collaboration between two Asheville creatives – filmmaker Dylan Trivette and Kramer, as well as her amazing band: River Guerguerian, Eliot Wadopian and Chris Rosser (who also create and perform their own world music as Free Planet Radio) and Dobro master Billy Cardine.

The video offers insight into the song’s origin and the creative endeavor required to bring it to life. The song explores the grief and loss connected with two emotional times in Kramer’s life: the death of a dear friend several years ago, and a more recent miscarriage. For Trivette, the video is an expression of the conversation that a filmmaker and musician have when it comes to making a video that brings that song to life through another medium.
