You know it’s sweeps when…

Victoria Dunkle interviews Kermit the Frog.

This happened Friday on our local TV news, the noon edition. If you all don’t watch the noon news, you’re missing out on lots of good stuff.

The salacious interview came as ABC was trying to pump up “The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz,” starring R&B songbird Ashanti beside the usual crew of Kermit, Miss Piggy and the rest. For all your Muppet news, go here.

So here’s what happened:

During the “interview,” Ashanti is her usual vapid self. There’s more life and personality in the Muppetts, but Dunkle, ever the professional news anchor, pushes through.

Miss Piggy gets largely cut out of the interview, standing there doe-eyed and all prissed up. Kermit it clearly the star, getting most of Dumbkle’s attention.

At the end of the interview, Dunkle asks to talk directly to Kermit. In this gripping moment, she confesses that she has had a crush on Kermit since her wee years. Kermit was doing Sesame Street News, which could be the name for what the local TV station does now, when Dunkle fell in love.

Dunkle: “I’ve had a crush on you since I first saw you on Sesame Street News.”
Kermit: “What? What was that? Did you say nude?”
Dunkle, aghast and in mock indignation: “Kermit, no!”
Kermit: “This is the first time I’ve ever spoken to Victoria. Wait. You’re Victoria? In Greenville? That Victoria?”
Kermit leers into the camera, obviously hot and bothered, and rushes off stage. Miss Piggy rushes after him. Ashanti is left to shrug.

Dunkle smiles broadly. She shoots. She scores.
