Press release here. I’m a big fan of these ladies:

ASHEVILLE, NC, June 11, 2012: Underhill Rose will headline Jack of the Wood, (95 Patton Avenue) in downtown Asheville on Friday, June 22nd at 8:00 p.m.

Returning to Western North Carolina after launching their 2012 summer tour with a multi-city trek through Eastern Tennessee, Underhill Rose brings their patented blend of American, soul, country, R&B, roots, and bluegrass music to one of Asheville’s celebrated listening hotspots, Jack of the Wood. “There is always a great crowd, dancing and singing along in such an intimate venue,” said Eleanor Underhill. “It’s a wonderful place to play and we’re so happy to have Salley Williamson joining us there for the first time,” added Molly Rose. This performance gives fans the chance to enjoy the Underhill Rose trademark “heartfelt country soul” sound, supported by the modern folk music of Cicada Rhythm. Tickets are $7 and available at the door.

Being called “one of the most promising rootsy women artists in the Americana scene” by No Depression magazine, Underhill Rose has earned a reputation as a trio with an impeccable sound and a captivating stage presence. Upon hearing the band for the first time, the Asheville Citizen-Times described the sound as “dusty country soul with gorgeous vocal arrangements…filled with acoustic strings and pastoral melodies.”

Formed out of the band they founded at Warren Wilson College, the acclaimed Barrel House Mamas, sultry vocalist and banjo picker Eleanor Underhill joined forces with Molly Rose, a country tinged guitar playing songstress, in 2009. After regional success, including the release of their critically acclaimed debut album, Underhill Rose added a third harmony in upright bass player Salley Williamson. Upon claiming a top 20 ranking in “WNCW’s 2011 Regional Releases” with their self-titled album and being added to Pandora radio, the band launched their first music video for the fan favorite, “Who Brought the Sun,” earlier this year. The video was nominated for an Asheville Video Music award in May.

The ladies have become the darlings of the Southeastern music scene, recently being handpicked to play at the celebration announcing the building of the New Belgium brewery in Asheville. Underhill Rose regularly appears at the famed Grove Park Inn and is currently on tour, with upcoming shows at Border Bash and the Rhythm and Roots Reunion in Bristol, TN; the Steppin’ Out Festival in Blacksburg, VA; Red Light Café in Atlanta, GA; the Empty Glass in Charleston, WV; and the European Street Café in Jacksonville, FL. In addition to touring, the group is currently writing new songs to be released in the coming year and making plans for a new music video.
