repeal_day_2013There are three events on Thursday built around celebrating the repeal of Prohibition. Top of the Monk is offering a special cocktail flight, while over at MG Road, entrepreneur Mary Rich will be celebrating the launch of her new business, Spirit Savvy, an event company centered on celebrating craft cocktails.

Here’s Top of the Monk:

Asheville’s only classic cocktail bar, Top of the Monk, will celebrate the Dec. 5 anniversary of the repeal of prohibition with special cocktail flights, available for one night only.

The expert bartenders will prepare of flight of three mini cocktails and a small bite. Featuring two delicious classic cocktails (the bourbon based Ward 8, the Martinez, which was the precursor of the martini, and the Black Walnut Daiquiri, a modern rum drink developed at the bar). “December 5th may not be the most well-known holiday, but it’s certainly one that we all feel is cause to celebrate, and we’re thrilled to present these special cocktail flights at both the Top of the Monk, and at the Back of the Monk in Biltmore Park,” said Chall Gray of the Thirsty Monk.

At Imperial Life on College Street, Cynthia Turner and Jasper Adams will be $4 Manhattan’s, Old Fashioned’s and Martinis. Aviation, Twelve Mile Limit and Champagne cocktails will go for $6. Punch will be flowing too, the crew says.

And from Spirit Savvy…

Spirit Savvy is proud to announce our launch party on Dec. 5th, the 80th Anniversary of Repeal Day- 7-9 p.m.

Mary Rich, Spirit Savvy’s founder says, “There is no more appropriate day to announce our launch. Spirit Savvy is about celebrating the rich tradition of the cocktail and the experience around it. ”

Period costumes are encouraged. MG Road will be creating some delicious libations for the evening and there will be a few surprises not to miss! Our premiere sponsor for the evening Krull and company, Asheville’s socially and environmentally responsible investment firm. We also have sponsorships from Socialoriate, Vintage Moon and Asheville Beard and Barber.

Spirit Savvy is a new events company located in Asheville, North Carolina. Our mission is to create unique happenings featuring the craft cocktail and heritage liquor brands. At Spirit Savvy we believe that the consumer wants an intimate informative experience around craft cocktails. We produce creative events that showcase liquor brands, mixologists and venues to an audience of slow cocktail enthusiasts.

The re-emergence of the craft cocktail marks a shift in the consumer market. More women are choosing cocktails over wine. There is a new excitement around the history of the cocktail and art of distilling. The consumer wants a relationship with a liquor brand that is informative, enticing and engaging. Spirit Savvy meets that need. Our events give the consumer an opportunity for appreciation and education. The celebrity mixologist is the next celebrity chef and we will bring much more attention to their artistry.

Spirit Savvy brings together liquor brands, craft cocktail bars, mixologists and consumer through unique event offerings. We are planning a series of underground cocktail events, cocktail competitions, corporate, private and many bar events across the state. Watch for us in 2014 and buy your tickets fast!

Hey Jason…check out what’s going on at The Imperial Life as well!

“Tomorrow marks 80 years since Prohibition was lifted. Sounds like the perfect excuse to have a drink and celebrate!

Come raise your glass with Jasper Adams and Cynthia Turner — $4 Manhattans, Old Fashioneds, and Martinis. Aviation, Twelve Mile Limit, and Champagne Cocktails for $6. Punch will be flowing, too!

Get your arse out and come play! See you tomorrow!”

That punch is $1 by the way……whaaaaatt?
